Day Z To Release As Standalone Game

None

A while back, we reported that the highly successful ARMA 2 mod Day Z could possibly become a standalone game . Well, developer Bohemia Interactive has announced that it’s now official.

The studio will be fully funding the full launch of Day Z’s standalone version, with creator Dean Hall hired as the project lead. He expressed his delight in the news, which for him is “a fairy-tale outcome.”

“Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so,” he added. “The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price. I realize people will have many, many questions – but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now.”

It was recently confirmed that over one million players have registered for the Day Z mod. A launch date for the full release, meanwhile, remains TBA.
