Destiny is UK’s Biggest New IP Launch Ever

As reported by Eurogamer on Monday, September 15, Bungie’s recently launched shooter Destiny has become the UK’s biggest new IP ever, according to official figures. What’s more is that the sales during its launch week overtook the launch of Watch_Dogs , which was the UK’s previous record holder.

According to Eurogamer, the PlayStation 4 version of the game took up 46 percent of the sales, which includes sales of new hardware packages bundled with the game. This was followed up by the Xbox On with 36 percent, Xbox 360 with 14 percent, and PlayStation 3 with four percent.

Split up between the two brands (Xbox and PlayStation), sales for different versions of the game are between 50/50. The sales figures did not included the performance of downloadable versions of the game. Below is a list of the top five games sold in the UK, courtesy of Eurogamer.

According to Eurogamer, Destiny has been the UK’s 17th biggest launch ever, behind franchises such as Call of Duty , FIFA , Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto .

Some analysts, according to News10, have estimated Destiny to sell 20 million copies in its lifetime, with more than $1 billion in revenue. During its launch week, the game made $500 million in revenue .

Destiny is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. A PC version of Destiny is currently “ a heavy point of discussion. ” We’ll bring you more news on Destiny should further information reach our ears.
