Disney Shutting Down Marvel Heroes

Disney Shutting Down Marvel Heroes

Recently, things seemed to be going well for Marvel Heroes . The game relaunched after a rough starting year, and since seemed to have garnered lots of fans and goodwill alongside a history of dedicated support and huge updates. Earlier this year, a console version even came out in Marvel Heroes Omega . Unfortunately, Disney seems to have opted not to renew the agreements in place allowing this license-reliant game to continue and is shutting all forms of Marvel Heroes down later this year.

In an official statement from Marvel Heroes developer Gazillion, the company stated that all of Marvel Heroes , including the recent Omega versions, will be shutting down on December 31, 2017. Sometime between now and then, Gazillion will put the game in a “sunset” state, meaning all content will be made free for everyone still playing.

Previously, Marvel Heroes was a free-to-play Diablo- like game, which lived on microtransactions for players to purchase things like characters, costumes, and temporary drop rate or experience boosts, among other items. Characters and costumes could also be earned for free through special currency drops as well. This closure may come as a shock to many, but as Kotaku reports, things have seemed off in the more dedicated spaces for the Marvel Heroes community for several weeks now, with multiple updates and planned content drops nowhere to be seen.
