Double Fine Partners with Nordic Games to Give Psychonauts and Other Games a Retail Release

Double Fine Partners with Nordic Games to Give Psychonauts and Other Games a Retail Release

Earlier today, Nordic Games announced via its blog that it would be partnering with Double Fine Productions to release both Mac and PC versions of Psychonauts , Stacking , and Costume Quest during the first half of 2014. News of this partnership followed shortly after Double Fine confirmed that they would be reacquiring all the publishing and distribution rights to both Costume Quest and Stacking .

Nordic Games had previously acquired the distribution rights to both IPs during THQ’s highly publicized bankruptcy auction earlier this year. Double Fine executives expressed happiness in having regained full control over both franchises and emphasized that they will continue to pursue rights for all their remaining IPs whenever necessary. The retail launches of Costume Quest and Stacking will mark the first time that both games have ever received physical releases.

While fans of these games will no doubt enjoy hearing this news, details on the possibility of a Psychonauts sequel still seems slim at best. Perhaps we will hear more news about this game after Double Fine finishes up their Kickstarter funded Broken Age project early next year.
