Two systems are going to get the next entry in Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series, but they don’t belong to the same “family.” While Dragon Quest X got comfy on Nintendo’s 3DS and Wii U, Dragon Quest XI is going to be found on the 3DS and PS4.
The versions of Dragon Quest XI will be different, but also the same. That is, they’ll look different, since the PS4 version uses Unreal Engine and the 3DS doesn’t, but the core experience will be the same. The gameplay won’t change and each will have the same story. The PS4 version looks a lot like the Wii U version of Dragon Quest X , while the 3DS version looks like the recent Dragon Quest VII and VIII remakes.
Square Enix has already gone on record as saying Dragon Quest Heroes ‘ performance could lead to future installments in the series appearing stateside. Maybe if it does well when it’s eventually released, we’ll get Dragon Quest XI ?
