From now on, I’ll be referring to the time before Duke Nukem Forever’s release as “the good old days.” They were simpler times when gamers chuckled about Duke’s everlasting vaporware status, and the term “forever” actually referred to the game’s future release date. But now that we live in a world where Duke has been released, it’s as if Gearbox is just antagonizing us. Today the developer announced that they would, for some reason, be releasing a downloadable content pack next week. The DLC, called ‘The Hail to the Icons Parody Pack,’ will contain four new multiplayer maps, a few sparkling new weapons and a few new multiplayer game modes.
Obviously, ‘Hail to the Icons’ is having a bit of fun with a few of the games that were significantly more successful. All jokes aside, I have my fingers crossed that another Duke title is in the works. Duke Nukem 3D was a generational icon, and I’m hoping that Gearbox can figure out a way to salvage one of the most promising franchises in gaming. By Josh Engen |
