Elder Scrolls Online Drops Monthly Subscriptions, Console Release Date Revealed

ZeniMax Online has announced that the console version of The Elder Scrolls Online will launch on Tuesday, June 9, which will release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, instead of the base game that was released in April last year, both PC and current-gen console gamers will introduced to The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited , which will also mark the resignation the MMO’s mandatory monthly subscription fee.

The console release of the game will The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited , but PC (Windows and Mac) gamers will have their hands on this version first on Tuesday, March 17. It’s implied that those who have already played the base PC game will no longer be required to pay monthly, and will be invited to return to the game for free. Newcomers to the MMO, however, will now need only make a one-time purchases. Although, while players will no longer be required to pay monthly, there will be an option to continue paying monthly in order receive in-game benefits. The developer promises that all players will still be able to play the game “without restrictions.”

By subscribing to The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited’s ESO Plus service, players will pay a monthly charge to “ receive monthly in-game benefits and a monthly allotment of crowns to spend in the [new Crown Store.” Those who previously had an active subscription to the game will be enrolled into ESO Plus automatically. This edition of the game also comes included with the base title and all of its previous updates and add-ons, including the new Justice and Champion systems. Players will have the option to buy additional downloadable content from the in-game Crown Store, which is said to offer “convenience and customization items.” Regular updates to the game will also be offered free of charge.

“Our fans are our biggest inspiration, and we’ve listened to their feedback on the entertainment experience they want. We know that Elder Scrolls fans want choice when it comes to how they play and how they pay, and that is what they will get. We have made numerous changes to the game over the past year, and are confident this is a game that Elder Scrolls fans will love to play,” said Matt Firor, the game director of The Elder Scrolls Online .
