Exploitable PSP Games Back On Vita Marketplace

Exploitable PSP Games Back On Vita Marketplace

None

It’s never a question of whether a new piece of gaming hardware can be hacked. Given enough time and dedication, a security loophole will be uncovered by interested hackers, and the tools to fully exploit that loophole will become readily available. With the PlayStation Vita, it took only a couple of months for someone to discover that the PSP versions of MotorStorm: Arctic Edge and Everybody’s Tennis, when downloaded onto the new handheld, could be used to run unsigned code on the device. The games were quickly pulled from the PSN, much to the chagrin of legitimate customers who had purchased them.

Today, though, they’re back, now that firmware 1.65 is out with a patch that blocks the loophole the games could exploit (as well as 1.66 and 1.67, both of which patch further security holes). That said, a group of hackers have already stated that they have broken firmware 1.67 using another downloadable PSP game, though the group has yet to state which one.
