Fable Legends Will Use the Kinect

Fable Legends Will Use the Kinect

Do you remember the last Fable game, Fable: The Journey ? You would be forgiven if you don’t, because Fable: The Journey was more of an on-rails Kinect game than a classic Fable RPG. Thus, when Fable Legends was announced, fans everywhere were terrified that the game, once again, would be nothing more than a motion controlled gimmick.

The full verdict on Fable Legends is still out, but we do know now that the Kinect will be used in the game. According to game director David Eckelberry, players will be able to use the Kinect or even the Xbox SmartGlass Tablet/Smarphone connection suite to control the game, but these methods of control are purely optional and supplemental to a classic controller scheme. In fact, the only thing you can do with the Kinect and SmartGlass is duplicate controls you can already give via the controller.

As for the Kinect itself, the team is looking at voice commands more than they are looking at motion commands. They are also looking at the game’s Villain mode more than the main story. Villain mode allows you to hop into other players’ games and take on the role of a villain, hindering the main character’s progress. You can issue attack orders to your minions, giving combat another level of strategy. Giving voice commands to them via Kinect may be an interesting way to play the game, if it works.

Would you use voice commands to control the game? Let us know in the comments.
