Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering - Every Option in the Product Lineup
Last Friday, June 13, marked the official release date of the highly anticipated Magic: The Gathering crossover with Final Fantasy. The world's most popular and best-selling trading card game meets the world's best-selling RPG franchise at last. While Magic: The Gathering is no stranger to some ambitious crossovers, even within the world of video games (Assassin's Creed, Fallout), it's especially exciting to see the game embrace the world of Final Fantasy with Square Enix already having a fairly successful TCG based on the property. As expected, a crossover this exciting has resulted in Wizards of the Coast rolling out a huge product line, and we're here to break down every option players have if they want to get in on Final Fantasy's introduction to the world of Magic: The Gathering.
Pre-Release Packs
- Release Date — June 6, 2025
- MSRP — $44.99
- Current Pricing — $80+
Ahead of the official June 13 release date, certain individuals and retailers could pre-order and receive special Prerelease Packs containing exclusive cards and accessories celebrating the crossover between Final Fantasy and Magic: The Gathering. While these are now only available on the secondary market, it's worth noting that their pricing hasn't gone up quite as much as you might expect compared to similar prerelease packs. As someone who's a fan of both MTG and Final Fantasy, I might even try to track one down just for the Garland card.

The best and easiest way to get in on the Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover is to pick up a Play Booster. Similar to other booster packs for Magic and its many variations, the Final Fantasy Play Boosters are a reasonable $8 per pack, with full Display Boxes containing 30 Play Boosters going for under retail on secondary market sites like eBay. While some of the other items in the product line may be harder to come by in person so close to the release date, Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering Play Boosters are available at your local gaming shop (LGS) and even major retailers like Target, Walmart, and GameStop.

Much harder to come by than the standard Play Boosters are the Collector Boosters. Collector Boosters, as the name implies, have a higher number of guaranteed rare and foil cards than a standard Play Booster, and many locations are currently sold out of single packs as they wait for Wizards of the Coast to print more. Even rarer are the full Display Boxes of Collector Boosters containing 12 booster packs each. Some of the rarest cards in the Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover can resell for up to $1400 as of the time of writing, meaning MTG collectors are eagerly snapping up Collector Booster Display Boxes for up to $800 (nearly double their MSRP) to increase their chances of a lucky rare pull.

Commander Decks
- Release Date — June 13, 2025
- MSRP — $79.99
- Current Pricing — $65-$110
Other than Standard, Commander is arguably one of the most popular game types in Magic: The Gathering, thanks to its emphasis on group play and casual fun. Considering the popularity of Commander, it makes perfect sense for Wizards of the Coast to focus on the Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover getting its own variety of pre-built Commander Decks. There are four Commander Decks players can grab, each one based around a protagonist from a different game in the Final Fantasy series (Final Fantasy VI's Terra or Final Fantasy VII's Cloud, etc), and they come in the box ready to play and with a slew of welcome accessories for longtime players or newcomers to MTG.
Contents:
- 1 ready-to-play deck of 100 cards (2 Traditional Foil Legendary cards, 98 non-foil cards)
- 2-card Collector Booster sample pack
- 25 new-to-MTG cards in each deck
- 10 double-sided tokens (3 decks) or 6 double-sided tokens and 4 punch-out counter cards (1 deck)
- 1 deck box
- 1 strategy insert
- 1 reference card
Collector's Edition Commander Decks
- Release Date — June 13, 2025
- MSRP — $149.99
- Current Pricing — $200-$300
The only difference between the standard and Collector's Edition Commander Decks is the number of foil cards that players get in each. While the standard Commander Decks have only 2 guaranteed foil cards, the Collector's Edition Commander Decks feature full 100-card decks in Surge Foil format. As such, these are a little bit harder to come by at retail locations, though they are still out there. Check your LGS or local big box retail chains before resorting to the secondary market.
