Game Releases This Week: May 19, 2025 to May 23, 2025
As we gear up for the end of May and the upcoming release of Elden Ring: Nightreign (arguably one of 2025's most anticipated titles), there are still plenty of excellent-looking game releases arriving this week across all platforms. The simulator crowd has a highly anticipated title dropping later today, as do Metroidvania fans, and 2023's incredible Sea of Stars is set to get its long-awaited DLC (which, by the way, is free if you already own the game). But following today's slate of releases is at least one high-profile title launching each day throughout the rest of the week, with plenty to keep you busy (or fill out the backlog) ahead of the end of May and June 2025's game release calendar.
RoadCraft
- Release Date — May 20, 2025
- Developer — Saber Interactive
- Publisher — Focus Entertainment
- Genre — Driving, Simulation
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Fans of simulation games are continually searching for the next experience to scratch that itch for blending realism with entertainment, and RoadCraft promises to be just that. Already highly anticipated with tons of wishlists on Steam, RoadCraft is a construction vehicle simulator in which players get to control diggers, bulldozers, excavators, and more, all rendered in stunning visual fidelity. Saber Interactive was behind the excellent and best-selling SnowRunner, and now they're bringing those same driving and simulation chops to a sandbox simulator straight out of many players' childhood dreams.
Sea of Stars - Throes of the Watchmaker DLC
- Release Date — May 20, 2025
- Developer — Sabotage Studio
- Publisher — Sabotage Studio
- Genre — JRPG
- Platforms — PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Sabotage Studio's Sea of Stars was one of the best games of 2023 and a refreshingly old-school JRPG with more than a few nods to Chrono Trigger, and now it's back with its first and only major DLC expansion: Throes of the Watchmaker. The Watchmaker played a critical role in the main story of Sea of Stars, only for her to disappear on her own quest, which is presumably where the DLC picks up to fill in those gaps from the base game. Ultimately, I'll take any excuse for more adventures featuring Valere and Zale.
The Siege and the Sandfox
- Release Date — May 20, 2025
- Developer — Cardboard Sword
- Publisher — Plaion
- Genre — Metroidvania, Stealth
- Platforms — PC
One of the more interesting Metroidvanias to release this year arrives today on Steam in The Siege and the Sandfox. Described as a "pure stealth" Metroidvania, Siege and the Sandfox doesn't feature combat, instead forcing players to use movement and shadow to hide from enemies and take them out with a single strike when there's no other option for progression. 2D stealth can be incredibly fun when done right (just look at Klei's Mark of the Ninja), and blending that with a Metroidvania sounds like it might be a winning mix.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate
- Release Date — May 20, 2025
- Developer — Super Evil Megacorp
- Publisher — Super Evil Megacorp
- Genre — Action Roguelike, Co-Op
- Platforms — PS4, PS5
After having already been available on PC for the better part of a year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is finally making its way to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 today via PSN. This co-op-focused action roguelike is basically like Turtles in Time meets Hades, and while it's incredibly fun in single-player, the game really shines when you have 4 players taking on each of the different Heroes in a Half-Shell and causing mayhem. PlayStation owners looking for a great new roguelike with some satisfying combat need look no further.
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
- Release Date — May 21, 2025
- Developer — Level-5
- Publisher — Level-5
- Genre — Action-Adventure, JRPG
- Platforms — PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
The Fantasy Life games have long been beloved by ARPG fans who like mixing their real-time combat and adventuring with city and town management, and the release of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Stole Time has been a long time coming. Already released on PC ahead of its console launch tomorrow, Fantasy Life i currently has an impressive 91% "Very Positive" user score on Steam, where players are drawing favorable comparisons between it and other city-builder/RPG hybrids like Dark Cloud and Ever Oasis.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad
- Release Date — May 21, 2025
- Developer — Netmarble Neo
- Publisher — Netmarble
- Genre — Action RPG, Multiplayer, PvE
- Platforms — Android, iOS, PC
The long-awaited Game of Thrones video game adaptation Kingsroad finally made its way to PC earlier this year on March 26, and tomorrow it officially lands on Android and iOS mobile devices. While it currently sits at a "Mixed" reception on Steam, Kingsroad seems to be the kind of title that would be better-suited to mobile, with much of its gameplay centered around interacting with other players in a painstakingly recreated version of Westeros that draws heavily from the series' HBO adaptation.
Monster Train 2
- Release Date — May 21, 2025
- Developer — Shiny Shoe
- Publisher — Big Fan Games
- Genre — Deckbuilder, Roguelike, RPG
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S
Shiny Shoe's Monster Train is one of the best deckbuilding games this side of Slay the Spire, and its sequel that's set to launch tomorrow looks just as great. For anyone who has yet to play the original Monster Train (which, what are you doing? Go play it), Monster Train 2 sees you once again conduct the titular locomotive through a vast wasteland, stopping for resources and card upgrades between battles and gradually building up both your offensive and defensive capabilities to withstand the tower defense-style card-battling that occurs in each encounter. Monster Train nailed its gameplay loop and progression curve, and with any luck, Monster Train 2 will do the same.
Blades of Fire
- Release Date — May 22, 2025
- Developer — Mercury Steam
- Publisher — 505 Games
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Madrid-based game developer Mercury Steam has some incredible titles under its belt in both the Metroid and Castlevania franchises, but its next game isn't a Metroidvania at all. Instead, Blades of Fire is a 3D action-adventure game based around forging your own weapons and using them in battle, all with a dash of Soulslike combat. Interestingly enough, some of the team at Mercury Steam worked on a game that served as inspiration for FromSoftware's Demon's Souls, so to see them return to the Soulslike subgenre in their new game is a bit of a "full-circle" moment.
Deliver At All Costs
- Release Date — May 22, 2025
- Developer — Studio Far Out Games
- Publisher — Konami
- Genre — Driving, Destruction
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Physics-based driving games have plenty of potential to be both incredibly fun and downright hilarious, which is precisely the vibe that Deliver At All Costs gives off in its demo ahead of its release this Thursday. As an out-of-work rocket scientist during the post-war boom of the 1950s, you take a job at a somewhat shady delivery service to, what else, deliver packages at all costs, regardless of how dangerous they might be. The driving physics and handling are precise while also being just floaty enough to inspire leaving plenty of mayhem in your wake, and the game supposedly has a pretty engaging story that comes out of left field.
Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping
- Release Date — May 22, 2025
- Developer — Happy Broccoli Games
- Publisher — Happy Broccoli Games
- Genre — Adventure, Detective
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
The Duck Detective games are supposedly some of the best point-and-click adventure/investigation games outside of classics like Return of the Obra Dinn and the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series, and the latest Duck Detective game releases this Thursday. And with a subtitle like The Ghost of Glamping, what's in store for players is anyone's best guess. Based on the last Duck Detective game, The Secret Salami, players can expect a charming and well-written noir adventure with plenty of humor and a great atmosphere.
Lynked: Banner of the Spark
- Release Date — May 22, 2025
- Developer — FuzzyBot
- Publisher — Dreamhaven
- Genre — Action RPG, Roguelike, Crafting
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Another game that's already been available on PC since last year, thanks to its Early Access launch, Lynked: Banner of the Spark finally releases into 1.0 this Thursday on both PC and modern consoles. This bright and whimsical ARPG features some excellent hack-and-slash combat against waves of enemies between its more relaxed city-building and crafting sections, and the ways that the two halves of Lynked's gameplay loop feed into one another smack of classics like Dark Cloud or ActRaiser. The Early Access version has an 88% "Very Positive" rating on Steam that seems to indicate it's hitting home for fans of titles that blend action RPG gameplay with city-building/management elements.
Out of Sight
- Release Date — May 22, 2025
- Developer — The Gang
- Publisher — Starbreeze Entertainment
- Genre — Adventure, Horror, Puzzle
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Despite being only the second major title from developer The Gang, the upcoming Out of Sight is published by none other than Starbreeze Entertainment, who know a thing or two about tense, atmospheric stealth and horror experiences. Billed as a "second-person adventure horror game", Out of Sight sees players take on the role of a visually impaired girl who must use her ability to see through the eyes of her teddy bear to escape a mansion filled with horrors. Demo impressions of Out of Sight were very strong, and the fact that the game is compatible with VR seems like a great, and potentially terrifying, fit.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown
- Release Date — May 22, 2025
- Developer — Strange Scaffold
- Publisher — Strange Scaffold
- Genre — Turn-Based Tactics
- Platforms — PC
For all the games that exist based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there aren't all that many RPGs or turn-based games, and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown looks to fix that. This TRPG title comes to us from developer Strange Scaffold, whose previous games, El Paso, Elsewhere, Clickolding, and I Am Your Beast, are each incredible experiences that suggest the TMNT license is in good hands. Tactical Takedown also has a public demo available (and has since February) that allows anyone interested to get a nice slice of gameplay ahead of release.
Haneda Girl
- Release Date — May 23, 2025
- Developer — Studio Koba
- Publisher — Studio Koba
- Genre — Action-Platformer, Shooter
- Platforms — PC
Since playing Haneda Girl, it's been one of my most anticipated titles for 2025. A side-scrolling action-platformer/shooter hybrid with an infectious atmosphere, visual style, and soundtrack, Haneda Girl is a pure assault on the senses, and I absolutely couldn't get enough of its bite-sized levels and full-sized combat sandbox. There are elements of precision platforming and run 'n gun gameplay in Haneda Girl's moment-to-moment action, but its presentation works overtime in a way that you'd expect from the same team behind Narita Boy.
Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny
- Release Date — May 23, 2025
- Developer — Capcom
- Publisher — Capcom
- Genre — Action, Survival Horror
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One
Seven years since releasing the remaster of the first Onimusha, Capcom is now following it up with the sequel. Onimusha 2 continues to be a favorite among fans of Capcom's long-dormant samurai survival horror series, and the timing of the remaster couldn't have been better ahead of the series getting its first new game in 20 years. Before Onimusha: Way of the Sword comes out in 2026, Onimusha 2 could pave the way for Capcom to remaster the other two mainline games.
