Gamescom 2011: Valve Wants EA To See Value In Steam Distribution

None

In an interview at Gamescom, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell finally shed some light on Valve’s perspective on recent conflicts between EA Games and Valve’s popular Steam digital distribution service. The conflict, thus far, has seen games, including Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2, pulled from sale on Steam as well as certain future releases, such as Gamescom Game of the Show Battlefield 3, not offered from the get-go.

“We really want EA’s titles on Steam,” said Newell, “we want to be useful to every developer.” Newell continues, stating that, “I think with any developer, the onus is on us to show them we have value, that we’re creating a lot of services and capabilities and bringing an audience to them. We want to do a good job showing EA that we have value on Steam.”

EA’s own stance on the issue has been informed by DLC policies Steam has in place, which the mega-publisher claims prevent it from offering the best possible experience to its customers. Hopefully, though, with a measured approach from both sides, an equitable agreement can be reached.
