Considering the fact that Call of Duty: Elite hasn’t been operational since it was released , GameStop’s recent sales numbers are actually pretty staggering. Selling 600,000 copies of a product that essentially doesn’t work is impressive by anyone’s metric, but I suppose that it tells us a bit about how much gamers love Call of Duty. Either players have an immense amount of trust in Activision’s ability to deliver a high-quality product, or they simply purchase anything that says “Call of Duty” on the front.
So, just so we’re clear, one of GameStop’s top ten launches of the year isn’t even a game. It’s an in fairly expensive companion service to a game, which must be purchased separately. Damn you, Activison. You are the smartest company on earth. Activision promises that Elite will be 99% operational within the next couple of weeks, so who knows how high that number will climb once the product is actually working… By Josh Engen |
