GDC 2010: Epic Games Readying Unreal Engine 3 for Apple Platforms

None

At GDC 2010, it was revealed by Epic Games that Unreal Engine 3 will be compatible with iPhone 3GS and iPad.

Potentially, all games created using UE3 could be translated to run on the portable platforms. However, according to an IGN report, Epic Games senior programmer Josh Adams stated that “You cannot expect to take Gears of War, hit a button, and expect it to work on the iPhone.”

In other words, getting the tweaked development tools to retrofit games to work with Apple products won’t be easy. Nevertheless, expect companies to spend time and money to adapt their games for Apple devices, because developers want their products made available to Apple consumers – a demographic notorious for spending lots of money on software, music, and much more.
