Google Announces Project Stream Test with Assassin’s Creed

Google Announces Project Stream Test with Assassin’s Creed

Rumors have been floating around for a while now, saying that Google has been preparing to enter the video games market via streaming, and it looks like we’re seeing the beginnings of it. Google released a video of Ubisoft’s nearly-released Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey supposedly streaming at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. This streaming is running on a platform Google is currently calling Project Stream.

In an announcement post, Google’s Catherine Hsiao states that Google has been working on technology to solve “some of the biggest challenges” when it comes to streaming. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is being used as a stress test, as it’s one of the largest and most complex AAA games to date. As part of this test, a limited number of users will be able to try Project Stream and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey out, starting on October 5, 2018.

Applications for participating in the test are live, but Hsiao warns that space will be limited. And participants must also live in the US, be over the age of 17, and have access to at least a 25 megabits per second internet connection.
