Anime Expo 2017 took place over the weekend. With it came all sorts of fun anime news, especially in video games. Perhaps most notably, Bandai Namco’s upcoming arcade action joint Gundam Versus has a confirmed release date of September 29.
Gundam Versus is a new, 2v2 or 3v3 action game, with a heavy, committal-based fighting style. It boasts a huge roster of over 90 different Mobile Suits. This is a PlayStation 4 exclusive, although the Gundam Versus series quietly debuted in North America previously with a Vita entry. The Vita version was definitely tailored as a handheld version, rather than a proper port of the arcade experience.
Gundam Versus has a long history in Japanese arcades, and the fanbase has been hoping for a big, North American release for a long time. Tons of new modes and mechanics, including a downward dash (which is a much bigger deal than it sounds, trust me) have been promised for what appears to be a pretty substantial console release. This could be a bigger release than anyone could expect.
