Heroes of the Storm Echoes Getting Alterac Event

Heroes of the Storm Echoes Getting Alterac Event

The next Heroes of the Storm event appears to be a cross-promotional vehicle for the upcoming Battle for Azeroth , the next World of Warcraft expansion. The event, called Echoes of Alterac , is an enormous event that brings a brand new battleground to Blizzard’s MOBA, along with a new character from the World of Warcraft universe.

The new character is Yrel, who was introduced in World of Warcraft ’s Warlords of Draenor expansion. It’s an interesting choice, since the story of that expansion took the game away from Azeroth, while the new battleground and WoW expansion are very much set in that classic territory. She is a Draenei though, which fills a previous gap in the roster. She’s also a paladin, who has various moves for area of effect damage and tanking, but many of her techniques are also based on timing, which is pretty distinct for a Heroes of the Storm character.

The battleground is Alterac Pass, which is meant to pay homage to the Alterac Valley stuff from World of Warcraft . This map doesn’t have 40v40 play, but it does have a variety of new gameplay mechanics. There are camps with capturable prisoners, cavalry units that can supply benefits to friendly players, mud pit traps, and even mercenary camps straight out of the source material.

The update also introduces several new skins for Auriel, Valeera, Johanna, and Junkrat. The event also seems to expand on some of the World of Warcraft lore involved, despite being a crossover MOBA game.
