How Hard Has Duke Fallen?

None

While Duke Nukem Forever’s critical impact might have been somewhat muted, it appears that the Duke’s financial imprint will be sizable. And that may have publisher Take-Two squirming.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter puts it in perspective, indicating that the game’s negative press has likely had a negative impact on sales, cutting estimates from 3 million units shipped to 1.5 million—a drop of fifty percent. This more than accounts for the half million units L.A. Noire sold over projections, putting Pachter’s revenue estimates for Take-Two’s first quarter down to $350 million from its original $375 million.

Pachter said, in a note to investors, “We had previously expected Duke to be one of the year’s top sellers due to a high degree of hype and a dedicated fan base.” Could this be proof that gamers have learned to see past the hype? That they won’t accept a subpar entry in a once-great gaming icon’s retinue?
