Back in May of 2015 we first caught wind of a possible Paper Mario game in development by Intelligent Designs for the Wii U. Apparently an Intelligent Designs employee spoke about it at a job expo but we never heard anything else about it, until now. Long-time Nintendo blogger Emily Rogers posted something very cryptic on her Twitter feed on Friday about an unannounced, first-party game being published by Nintendo for the Wii U. Rogers stated she and a partner needed the weekend to comb through all of the information, but finally broke her silence with the following update:
“Rumor: 5 sources told us a new Paper Mario will be announced this year for Wii U. Developed by Intelligent Systems.” This is not connected to the original rumor tied to the apparent loudmouth at the jobs expo, but is welcome corroboration for a rumor that we all hoped might be true. Rogers went on to say that “The game is currently being localized and tested.” If that’s true and the game is really that far along, it shouldn’t be long before we hear an official announcement. You can bet that I’ll be looking forward to the next Direct, holding my breath until I hear the good news.
