Junction Point May Be Shut Down

Junction Point May Be Shut Down

Rumor has it that Junction Point, the creator of the Epic Mickey franchise, is going to close their doors. The rumor comes from a tweet, from Roberts Space Industries, that Joystiq picked up on. “Second 21 gun salute for a studio in 7 days. Fare-the-well Junction Point! We hope that you all find new studios soon!” the tweet said. Another tweet by George Broussard, co-founder of 3D Realms said “the Junction Point rumors have been circulating a while. Warning signs when you give employees 2 months off after shipping.” Disney officials have been saying that Disney Interactive has been a bit of a disappointment, thanks to its lack of profitability. So does this mean that Junction Point is shutting down?

As of yet, we do not know. Disney has not commented on the situation. Not only that, but the original tweet has since been removed. A response has been posted, stating that the tweet was based on a story from MyNintendoNews and that no inside information about the studio or it’s apparent closing was known. However, the MyNintendoNews story cites the original tweet as a reference, so something fishy is going on here.

Either way, it’s no lie that Junction Point studios is in a bit of a jam. Epic Mickey 2 hasn’t sold well at all, barely breaking 270,000 copies. Though the closing of the studio isn’t official, it wouldn’t be surprising if it actually did come to pass.
