After what's already been an incredibly busy year, June 2025's game releases are set to shake things up even further thanks to one arrival in particular: the Switch 2. Nintendo's long-awaited follow-up to the Nintendo Switch is set to arrive on June 5, 2025 after a period of uncertainty surrounding its availability and pre-orders in the United States, and Nintendo recently projected that they expect to sell upwards of 15 million Switch 2 units in just the first 9 months of the console's life span. Given how quickly pre-orders sold out, they might actually be poised even to surpass that projection. Of course, the Switch 2 wouldn't be nearly as exciting without a strong launch software lineup, and many of the console's debut titles find themselves on our list of the month's most anticipated games.
Joining the Switch 2 launch games are a slew of indie, AA, and AAA titles that have been highly anticipated for the better part of a year. Two of the month's biggest releases — FBC: Firebreak and Death Stranding 2 — are follow-ups to some of the more critically acclaimed games of the 8th generation (Control and Death Stranding, respectively), and another of June's higher-profile games, MindsEye, is the debut game from former GTA lead Leslie Benzies' new studio. Just when we thought we might be getting a break during the traditionally slower summer months, June is closing out 2025's Q2 with a bang.
Barvely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster
- Release Date — June 5, 2025
- Developer — Cattle Call, Square Enix
- Publisher — Square Enix
- Genre — JRPG
- Platforms — Switch 2
One of the more exciting and unexpected games to launch alongside the Switch 2 is the HD remaster of the first Bravely Default game. Going by its original Japanese title, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a faithful reimagining of the Bravely Default series' genesis, which many fans still consider to be the best game in the franchise (though I personally prefer Bravely Default 2). Aside from the nice uplift to the game's visuals, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster includes several quality-of-life touches that serve to update it from its original 3DS version and bring it into the modern era.
Deltarune
- Release Date — June 5, 2025
- Developer — Toby Fox
- Publisher — Toby Fox
- Genre — Adventure, RPG
- Platforms — PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2
June 5th is a special day for fans of Toby Fox's charming RPG games (both Undertale and Deltarune), as it's the day players finally get their hands on the long-awaited third and fourth chapters of Deltarune. While there are still a planned fifth, sixth, and seventh chapters to come later down the line, Switch 2 owners are getting all 4 currently available parts of Deltarune on day 1 as other platforms get the new chapters. Just like Undertale, Deltarune is a retro-inspired RPG with strong writing, plenty of humor and heart, and some great bullet hell-style combat.
Etheria: Restart
- Release Date — June 5, 2025
- Developer — XD Games
- Publisher — XD Games
- Genre — JRPG
- Platforms — Android, iOS, PC
Originally listed as a nebulous "2025" release, XD Games has recently confirmed that its upcoming mobile and PC RPG Etheria: Restart will be launching on June 5 up against some pretty stiff competition. That said, if you're holding off on a Switch 2 for now or do most of your gaming on PC or mobile, Etheria: Restart looks to be another promising RPG with anime-inspired visuals and a cool cyberpunk theme. Also of note is that the game features some more classically-inspired turn-based combat and will be free to play at launch, likely supported by some in-game microtransactions for cosmetic options.
Mario Kart World
- Release Date — June 5, 2025
- Developer — Nintendo
- Publisher — Nintendo
- Genre — Racing
- Platforms — Switch 2
By the time the Switch 2 arrives with Mario Kart World as its flagship launch title, it will have been 8 years since the launch of the Nintendo Switch alongside Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 11 years since the launch of the original Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. Accordingly, Nintendo seems to be pulling out all the stops when it comes to how Mario Kart World evolves the ever-growing formula of the company's kart racing series, with the focal point being its new transition into a Forza Horizon-style open-world experience with plenty of side content to tackle while making your way from race-to-race. The latest iteration of Mario Kart is practically a must-have for every Nintendo console, and Mario Kart World feels like a great first-party title to accompany the Switch 2's launch.
Dune: Awakening
- Release Date — June 10, 2025
- Developer — Funcom
- Publisher — Funcom
- Genre — Survival, Crafting, Open-World
- Platforms — PC
Denis Villeneuve's Dune films are perhaps the perfect adaptation of one of the all-time great sci-fi novels, and we're finally getting a new Dune game that uses a similar visual aesthetic and art direction as the films in Dune: Awakening. This ambitious open-world survival and crafting game set on the harsh desert planet of Arrakis comes from developer Funcom, who already have a strong track record with similar games (primarily, Conan: Exiles). Early preview coverage of Dune: Awakening seemed to indicate that it was ticking all the right boxes for an open-world experience set in Frank Herbert's universe, and the fact that it's a massively multiplayer online game makes it all the more intriguing.
MindsEye
- Release Date — June 10, 2025
- Developer — Build A Rocket Boy
- Publisher — IO Interactive
- Genre — Action, Adventure, Shooter
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Rockstar Games' Leslie Benzies left his longtime role as lead producer and designer on the Grand Theft Auto series to start his own studio back in 2016, and its first game is the upcoming MindsEye. Published by Hitman's IO Interactive, MindsEye is an intriguing-looking third-person shooter title with some impressive visuals and driving segments not entirely unlike GTA. From what's been shown off of the game so far, it appears to be a bit more linear than Grand Theft Auto and skews closer to something like Mafia or Watch Dogs as a sort of semi-open world linear action game, but with Benzies at the helm it's definitely a title to keep an eye on ahead of GTA 6's launch.
The Alters
- Release Date — June 13, 2025
- Developer — 11-bit Studios
- Publisher — 11-bit Studios
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Survival
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Polish game developer 11-bit Studios has made a name for itself over the last several years by producing one unique and critically acclaimed game after another, and its latest project looks to be continuing that trend. Dubbed The Alters, this action-adventure survival game has been making the rounds for several years as a promising title to follow, and it's finally set to release this June after more than 3 years in development. As the name somewhat suggests, The Alters puts players in control of a lone engineer trying to survive a harsh alien planet. To do so, he must create clones of himself, or "Alters" that aid him in that task as he pilots a giant planet-roaming base away from the deadly rays of the local sun.
Screaming Savage Blood Death
- Release Date — June 13, 2025
- Developer — James Interactive, Wayne Kubiak
- Publisher — James Interactive
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Survival Horror
- Platforms — PC
Likely, most players wouldn't expect to get a spiritual successor/homage to the NES Friday the 13th game in 2025, but here we are with Screaming Savage Bloody Death's release fast approaching. This June 13th release comes from co-developer and publisher James Interactive, whose other games on Steam have a strong track record of earning either "Very Positive" or "Overwhelmingly Positive" user review scores. And if you couldn't tell from the picture, Screaming Savage Bloody Death wears its Friday the 13th inspirations loud and clear for all to see, including using a similar visual style and sporting an old-school CRT filter to make this 2D side-scrolling survival horror game look authentic to its biggest influence.
FBC: Firebreak
- Release Date — June 17, 2025
- Developer — Remedy Entertainment
- Publisher — Remedy Entertainment
- Genre — FPS
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Remedy Entertainment's FBC: Firebreak is a weird and delightful shooter that's unmistakably the work of the Finnish developer. A follow-up to Control, FBC: Firebreak is a vastly different experience from that 2019 Game of the Year nominee. Instead of a moody and surreal third-person action-adventure game like Control, FBC: Firebreak is a co-op squad-based FPS set inside the Oldest House: the living headquarters of the fictional Federal Bureau of Control. If early previews are any indication, the mix of strong first-person shooting gameplay and a unique Remedy Entertainment atmosphere makes FBC: Firebreak unlike most other squad-based shooters on the market and a title that's deserving of players' attention, whether or not they've played Control.
Lost in Random: The Eternal Die
- Release Date — June 17, 2025
- Developer — Stormteller Games
- Publisher — Thunderful Publishing
- Genre — Action Roguelike
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S
Another follow-up that switches up genres from its predecessor, Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is the action roguelike sequel to 2020's Lost in Random. But despite its pivot from action-adventure to something along the lines of Hades, The Eternal Die still bears the unmistakable visual style and narrative focus of Lost in Random, complete with a new story where players get to experience the redemption arc of the first game's antagonist. Lost in Random: The Eternal Die's biggest pull is set to be its combat, which once again incorporates dice in meaningful ways that can transform encounters.
Chronicles of the Wolf
- Release Date — June 19, 2025
- Developer — Migami Games
- Publisher — PQube, PixelHeart
- Genre — Metroidvania
- Platforms — PC
One of June 2025's more exciting game releases that might not be on players' radars is Chronicles of the Wolf. Chronicles is the spiritual successor to Migami Games' Wallachia: Reign of Dracula, which was a very competent homage to the original 8 and 16-bit Castlevania games. But with Chronicles of the Wolf, Migami is pivoting to honor a different era of Castlevania. Yes, Chronicles of the Wolf is a full-blown Metroidvania instead of a more traditional action-platformer, and it already looks like it could be one of the best Metroidvanias this year, even with 2025 already being full of quality Metroidvania games. Fans of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest will want to keep a close eye on this one.
Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
- Release Date — June 19, 2025
- Developer — Atlus
- Publisher — Sega
- Genre — Action-Adventure, JRPG
- Platforms — PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Atlus and Sega have quite a few exciting releases set for 2025, and one of the most surprising is the upcoming remaster of 2006's Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army. A PS2 cult-classic spin-off of the Devil Summoner series (itself a spin-off of the larger Shin Megami Tensei franchise), Raidou is a tightly-paced and much-loved action RPG in which players take on the role of the titular detective and his demon allies as they solve a mystery affecting all of Tokyo. Raidou Remastered was a total left-field surprise when it was first announced at the February Nintendo Direct this year, and it's now set to arrive for all platforms, including Switch 2.
Rematch
- Release Date — June 19, 2025
- Developer — Sloclap
- Publisher — Sloclap, Kepler Interactive
- Genre — Sports
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Sifu developer Sloclap is set to deliver its next game this June with the promising Rematch. A 5v5 competitive online soccer game in which fluid movement and stylish animations are the rule of the day, Rematch is precisely the kind of game that you could see Sloclap excelling at, given how satisfying it was to control the protagonist in Sifu. Based on the playtest of Rematch from earlier in the year, early impressions of the game are incredibly strong. Soccer/Football games are some of the most popular in the world (just look at FIFA/EA Sports FC). Rematch taps into the worldwide obsession with soccer while also embracing the pick-up-and-play nature of games like Rocket League (aka, "Car Soccer"), and it could be one of the biggest multiplayer games of 2025.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- Release Date — June 26, 2025
- Developer — Kojima Productions
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Stealth, Open-World
- Platforms — PlayStation 5
6 years after the release of the first game in the series, Death Stranding 2 is arriving in just a few weeks on June 26, 2025. Death Stranding 2 is the latest project from video game auteur and industry legend Hideo Kojima, and it's looking every bit as bonkers as you'd expect from the mind behind the Metal Gear Solid series. Anticipation for Death Stranding 2 is at an all-time high given the many fan theories circling about the game's plot, characters, connections to a "Kojima multiverse," and more, and we thankfully don't have much longer to wait before we get answers to some (or all) of those questions. The first Death Stranding was a unique experience that felt like nothing else, and the sequel is, by all accounts, continuing that ideology.
Persona 5: The Phantom X
- Release Date — June 26, 2025
- Developer — Atlus, Sega, Perfect World
- Publisher — Sega
- Genre — JRPG, F2P
- Platforms — Android, iOS, PC
After a year-long beta in China, Persona 5: The Phantom X is finally coming to the West this June. This free-to-play mobile spin-off of the award-winning Persona 5 is a turn-based RPG that features both new and returning characters, and its localization to the West sees it arriving on PC as well as mobile devices. As you might expect from a F2P game, Persona 5: The Phantom X uses gacha mechanics as a means to pull in iconic heroes from across the Persona franchise to recruit as allies, which players can spend real-world money to acquire should they choose.
