Kojima Expected To Leave Konami After Metal Gear Solid V

Earlier today, Gamespot reported on a story suggesting that Hideo Kojima may be leaving Konami shortly after the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain . A source close to the situation stated that Kojima had a falling out with Konami that resulted in him and his staff now having limited promotional opportunities and access to the company’s corporate database. In addition to all of this, Konami has removed the Kojima Productions logo from all Metal Gear art, while a separate Metal Gear Twitter page has been created by Kojima and his team.

Kojima said in a recent interview that The Phantom Pain would most likely be his last MGS game and it’s currently unclear if his relationship with Konami is the reasoning for this statement. Konami has released a statement saying that the series will continue but hasn’t elaborated further on what’s going on with Kojima now.

As a diehard fan of the series, I can say firsthand that this franchise without Kojima would definitely lower the quality and appeal of the overall brand. Hopefully we will have more news soon on this matter and what’s next for Kojima if in fact he is leaving Konami.

Are any of you surprised by this news, and if so, how do you think it will impact the franchise as a whole? Please feel free to let us know your candid thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
