Layton’s Last Adventure Announced

Layton’s Last Adventure Announced

Level-5 recently announced a brand new 3DS Professor Layton game, and this game will sadly be Layton’s last adventure.

Announced via Nintendo’s Direct video feed, CEO Akihiro Hino didn’t necessarily say what “Layton’s Last Adventure” meant, but he did strongly imply that the main character, Layton himself, will most likely be giving up his protagonist slot. However, it also seemed as if this did not mean the Layton series would end, just that the torch would be passed to someone else. Perhaps an older Luke?

The game was announced along with some preview footage, but this footage didn’t show us anything different from what we have come to expect. The game is called “Professor Layton Choubunmei to A no isan” and has no English title so far. No word has been given on a U.S. or EU launch date as of yet, and a price is still unannounced. However, we do know the game will be coming in 2013 in Japan.

Many of you may remember that Phoenix Wright, a similar puzzle/graphic novel game, went through a similar transition back in the days of the DS. Phoenix stepped down to let Apollo Justice step up in his stead. However, after Apollo’s game, the Phoenix Wright series continued for quite some time. Frankly, it appears as if Professor Layton’s “last game” is simply following in Phoenix Wright’s footsteps.
