Level-5, the developer behind Professor Layton and Ni No Kuni, is working on a brand new title for the PlayStation 4. This information comes from Akihiro Hino, Level-5’s CEO, in an interview with Nikkei Trendy. “It’s still in the planning stages,” Hino said, “but we are also working on a PlayStation 4 title. We might be able to announce it soon.”
Hino went on to say that, even though the PlayStation 4’s graphics and performance are impressive, the console is really built around the PlayStation Network. “We need to think about communication—how to use the network features.” It’s good to see prominent game developers thinking about how to integrate the PS4’s social features into their games.
Hino also commented on the Vita and its struggles in both Japan and America. “I think the Vita’s new price (19,800 yen) is great,” he said. “However, just cutting the price is not going to lead to it spreading. You also have to simultaneously release strategic titles. I think there is a huge amount of anticipation around what those titles will be.”
Level-5 has been incredibly successful in the last few years. Not only did Ni No Kuni reintroduce western audiences to the JRPG, but Fantasy Life, Level-5’s take on Animal Crossing, has been selling out of stores all around Japan and will be coming here to America soon enough.
