Lionhead Studios to Close, Fable Legends Canceled

Lionhead Studios to Close, Fable Legends Canceled

Well, I have some bad news for all of you Fable fans. We’ve received word that Microsoft has decided to make some changes, and in the wake of those changes Lionhead Studios, the team responsible for Fable , will be shut down. Lionhead was just wrapping up production on Fable Legends, a free-to-play, online, action / RPG that was supposed to release for Xbox One and Windows. The statement also notes that development on “ Project Knoxville ” will also be halted, as Denmark studio Press Play Studios is being shut down as well.

“These have been tough decisions and we have not made them lightly, nor are they a reflection on these development teams – we are incredibly fortunate to have the talent, creativity and commitment of the people at these studios. The Lionhead Studios team has delighted millions of fans with the Fable series over the past decade. Press Play imbued the industry with a unique creative spirit behind games like Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Kalimba , which both captured passionate fans.”

Apparently these changes are taking effect so that Microsoft can focus its time and money on the games that “…fans find most exciting and want to play.” It sounds like there wasn’t enough money to go around, and Fable didn’t make the cut. It’s sad to see Lionhead closing, but who knows: maybe we’ll see these guys on a Kickstarter campaign sometime soon. If the fans are there, so is the funding.
