In a move that is sure to shock fanboys around the world, Mario and Sonic are teaming up in a new game called Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
The game will feature actual Olympic games, focused specifically on the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, like swimming, the 100m dash, and table tennis.
Gamers will be able to play a variety of characters including Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Tails, and Knuckles. Sega also promises “innovative use” of the unique control schemes for both the Wii and DS. A dual platform release is scheduled for this holiday season.
“Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games,” stated Shigeru Miyamoto. “In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now that they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we may finally learn who is actually faster, Mario or Sonic?”
