Mario Kart 8 Has Sold Over One Million Units in US

As detailed on Nintendo’s official press release website on Thursday, August 14, it has been announced that the recently released Mario Kart 8 has sold more than 1 million units in the US alone, making the title the second Wii U game to achieve that milestone since New Super Mario Bros. U , which sold 1.69 million units.

According to the press release, Mario Kart 8 continues to perpetuate the momentum for the Wii U, with total sales of both the console and its games having increased by nearly 60 percent and over 135 percent, respectively, since the beginning of 2014 through to July, compared to the same length of time back in 2013.

Along with the success steadily increasing success of the Wii U, the 3DS has also reach a large milestone in terms of sales. Thank to the strength of line-up for the handheld, more than 40 million 3DS games have been sold to date in the US alone.

A list of the attributing games to make the 3DS reach the milestone has been detailed below.

• Mario Kart 7: 3.48 million.

• Super Mario 3D Land: 3.09 million.

• New Super Mario Bros. 2: 2.28 million.

• Pokémon X: 2.10 million.

• Pokémon Y: 2.01 million.

• The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D: 1.39 million.

• Animal Crossing: New Leaf: 1.36 million.

• Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon: 1.33 million.

• The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: 1.09 million.

According to a recent survey following this year’s E3, people have become very excited for the Wii U since Nintendo’s press conference at the event in Los Angeles.

Thanks to the gameplay demos and announcements showcased during said press conference, people reportedly have more of an incentive to buy a Wii U , according to the survey. In fact, the intent to buy the console for those who participated in the survey shot up by roughly 50 percent from before E3 until afterwards.
