Metal Gear Survive Requires the Internet

Metal Gear Survive Requires the Internet

And so it begins. Those with bones to pick with Konami over all the Metal Gear drama now have more fuel to add to the fire, thanks to an oddly dated controversial element in Metal Gear Survive . This has come along with all the new details on the game recently revealed, as Konami announced the game’s release date and pre-order goodies earlier this week. Turns out, an internet connection is straight-up required to play Metal Gear Survive , even in single player.

This revelation comes from the official website for Metal Gear Survive , which spills the beans right on the product page. It says, “an internet connection is required to play the game.” This follows an expected message stating PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold is required for multiplayer. So, even without Plus or Gold, you still need to be online to play by yourself.

When asked for comment, Konami issued a statement saying that “progress and rewards” earned in Metal Gear Survive carry over between single and multiplayer, likely meaning the requirement is related to character data being stored on servers. Sounds reasonable, but likely a bit disappointing for people wary of this kind of functionality.
