Skype, a free VoIP service, has been bought this morning by Microsoft for a little bit over 8 billion dollars in cash. That’s a hefty chunk of change! But what does this mean for gamers? Well first off, it means that Microsoft will be developing Skype applications for the Kinect peripheral as well as Windows phones.
However, if you love your Skype application on the PSP, iPhone, or Android-compatible phone and are worried this acquisition might affect it, don’t be. Microsoft has said that it will still allow Skype to be developed for existing and new third-party platforms.
