Microsoft Will Support the 360 for Three More Years with 100 In-Development Games

Microsoft Will Support the 360 for Three More Years with 100 In-Development Games

Remember when Microsoft said that people who weren’t happy with the always-on Kinect of the Xbox One could just go play the Xbox 360 instead? Well, recently revealed information is making it appear like that was a genuine statement, rather than a thinly veiled insult.

According to Microsoft, it will continue to support the Xbox 360 for another three years after the Xbox One releases. Over 100 new games are still in development for the console, and Microsoft plans to greenlight even more. Sales of the Xbox 360 are up now that the price has dropped and the generations are changing over, leading the 360 to be extremely profitable toward the back end of its life. As a result, even some Xbox One games will be coming to the Xbox 360, like Project Spark .

Microsoft plans to phase-out the Xbox 360 around mid-year 2016. This is a drastically different approach than what it did with the original Xbox, which was more or less an immediate shutdown.
