ModernWarfare3.com Owner Unmasked

None

ModernWarfare3.com was a pretty immature site. It was basically nothing but anti-Modern Warfare propaganda by some fan who registered the domain name anonymously. Of course Activision was going to file a complaint over the domain name. Now that Modern Warfare 3 is actually coming out, fans are probably heading over to ModernWarfare3.com and being slapped in the face by rants about how bad the game is.

Since the site was registered anonymously, Activision filed a complaint with the proxy server itself, in this case Go Daddy. In response, Go Daddy blatantly dropped the domain’s privacy settings revealing the owner to be Anthony Abraham. Abraham is a pretty notorious internet troll, having previously created a fake Zune music download site which was essentially nothing more than a huge scam. We do not know whether or not Activision will pursue legal action against Abraham at this time.

Still, even though Abraham is a huge troll, a sudden removal of a site’s privacy settings is a pretty crappy thing to do. Many site owners rely on privacy policies to keep their identity a secret, especially when they have strong opinions they want to express. Activision was totally within their rights to try and seize the domain name, but the revelation of the site owner’s identity as a result is an unfortunate side-effect for anyone who believes in internet anonymity.
