Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the North American and European version of the enhanced version of Monster Hunter 4, Monster Hunter 4G. This title was the first game in the franchise to appear on a handheld and feature fully integrated online multiplayer. The Monster Hunter franchise has always been about hunting monsters with your friends but now being able to do so while on the game was a game-changing breakthrough. Unfortunately as of writing, the online servers for 3DS and WiiU have been disconnected but thankfully, players are still able to play with each other through local connection. Fans and critics consider Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate to be one of, if not the best title in the franchise, and I agree as well.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Premise
Instead of being a hunter from a village or an island like previous titles, the player is a hunter traveling with a caravan. It feels like this game was the beginning of modern Monster Hunter as it has a much grander focus on exploration and storytelling. This title also introduced more dynamics to the gameplay such as vertical movement and climbing mechanics. It’s a great entry point into the series and is even fun still to go back to if you started with a modern title like Monster Hunter World or Monster Hunter Rise.

Note: This is a time-limited event that ended on March 15, 2015. However, it should be able to be done still through emulation. Make sure your game is v1.1. Enter your house, and talk to the housekeeper. Select the “Downloadable Content” option. Select the “Gift Area” option in the menu, and download the free Starter Pack. The items that you will receive include six Super Mushrooms, which are required for the costumes. Complete the first two quests from the Caraveneer.
If needed, deploy Ace Palico from the Palico board in your house. Obtain three Large Barrels, which can be purchased from the Street Market. You also need to have 1,300z. You can now forge either the Mario or Luigi costume. Talk to the Smithy (The Man), and select the “Forge Palico Gear” option. For “Weapon”, forge the “Invincible Hammer”. For “Head”, forge either the “Mario Cap” or the “Luigi Cap”. For “Chest”, forge either the “Mario Overalls” or the “Luigi Overalls”.
Rainbow Pigment effect
Complete the one to seven-star Caravan quests (except for the Training quests) to unlock the Caravaneer’s Challenge. Complete the Caravaneer’s Challenge quest to unlock the Rainbow Pigment effect. Alternately, complete all Caravan quests (except for the Training quests) to unlock the Master’s Test. Complete the Master’s Test to unlock the Rainbow Pigment effect.

Easy Earth Crystals
Earth Crystals are required for weapon abrasives. They can be farmed at the Underground Cave. This trick requires both of your cats and a Gathering Set, which gives you the Gather Master (Gathering +3), Divine Whim, and Speed Gathering stats to increase your farming efficiency. To create a Gathering Set, obtain a three-slotted weapon with three Blessing Jewels, a Leather S Mail chest armor with one Blessing Jewel, three Gathering Jewels in your Charm, and the remaining equipment with Torso Ups. A few quality Pickaxes and a Farcaster are also required. While at the Underground Cave, you will find a mixture of random and fixed-location crystals that can be mined.
As you progress, you have to be more careful since you will occasionally get attacked. As soon as you enter the eighth area inside the Underground Cave, you will find two fixed mining points on each side. Ignore the mining location on the right-hand side, and instead move to the one on the sharp incline on the left-hand side. The ninth area features two fixed crystal locations; the one on the right hand has a large amount of enemies near it. To get them both, immediately go to the left, mine that crystal, then move forward and mine the second crystal before quickly using the Farcaster to escape. The entire process should require about three minutes to complete. Repeat the process as many times as desired.
Equipment registration in Hunters for Hire
Use the following steps to register your equipment for the Guild Card. Enter the solo tavern, then display the menu. Advance to the second page, then select the third option for the Guild Card. Four options will appear: “My Guild Card”, “Edit Guild Card”, “Send Guild Card”, and “Guild Card List”. Select the “Edit Guild Card” option, then move down to the fourth row. If it displays “Unregistered”, select the option, then select the left option to confirm. Registering your equipment will make it appear as it is during the time of registration on your Guild Card.
Without registering it, your equipment will not be updated from its current state. Exit back to the four options within the “Guild Card” menu, then choose “Send Guild Card”. You will now have two options, “Send To All” and “Send To Individual”. This allows you to manually send the Guild Card to your friends but is not necessary because they will automatically update when you join a friend’s room or the opposite happens. You can check Guild Cards by using the “Guild Card List” option and then selecting the ones you have received. Note: Your character’s appearance and weapon will not change until you enter the Guild Hall again.
