New Mass Effect will Reference Original Trilogy

As reported by Eurogamer on Wednesday, June 11, Mass Effect developer BioWare has confirmed that the next installment to the Mass Effect franchise will indeed reference the original trilogy, but the game will not be directly related to it.

In an interview with Game Trailers , BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal boss Aaryn Flynn explained that the studio had a “ really cool idea ” for how the franchise would continue.

I can’t get into that too much. We’ve got a really cool idea for how we’re going to carry on – keep the trilogy separate but at the same time give a bunch of nods to fans who enjoyed the trilogy in the past, Flynn teased. “ That’s all going to come out soon.

According to Eurogamer, BioWare has already established that the new Mass Effect will not feature Shepard, and their previous companions is also unlikely to return.

When asked about returning characters, Flynn only confirmed that there’ll be returning races–such as the korgans.

Hmm, ” Flynn mused when broached on the subject. ” Definitely returning races. It wouldn’t be a Mass Effect game without the krogans – we showed a krogan today.

Some in-progress footage of the next Mass Effect was teased during day one of E3 2014 at EA’s press conference–on Monday, June 9.

In the video that was shown, several members of BioWare’s team discussed the studio’s goal is to create a story that can be discovered as interactive fiction.
