Despite less-than-stellar reviews from the gaming media, the widespread sense of betrayal among the series’ hardcore fans, and a manipulative DLC plan that included charging for the use of new weapons in multiplayer (after they’d been promised for free; a statement that apparently applied only to the single-player campaign), Ninja Gaiden 3 has apparently been doing well at retail. The specific number, according to Tecmo Koei, is 630,000. That’s how many units Ninja Gaiden 3 has purportedly shipped to stores worldwide. That’s not stellar, by any means, but it’s right in line with the game’s predecessors, and definitely contributed to the company’s 10.7 percent increase in revenue for the 2011 fiscal year. Other contributing factors were strong sales Samurai Warriors 3 Empires and Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition, but Tecmo Koei has been particularly vocal about the sales of the latest Ninja Gaiden.
