Nintendo, Boingo Form An Airport Alliance

None

Yesterday, Nintendo announced a partnership that will bring free WiFi hotspots to 42 airports across the country. The developer is teaming up with Boingo, who describes themselves as “the worldwide leader in Wi-Fi software and services,” to provide an Internet connection for travelers who can’t leave home without their 3DS.

“With the holiday season approaching, more leisure travelers and families with children will fill our airports and have access to our hotspots,” said Colby Goff, senior vice president of strategy and business development at Boingo. “Our state-of-the-art networks will provide Nintendo 3DS users with seamless connectivity and fast, reliable service to help them make the most of their travel downtime.”

3DS owners will have access to all of their favorite internet-based features, such as online gameplay, streaming video, and Nintendo’s 3DS store.

“Nintendo 3DS is our most connected device ever, and this agreement will allow people to stay entertained while they’re on the go,” said Zach Fountain, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Nintendo of America.

This is almost an understatement, actually. With this new partnership, Nintendo has almost 30,000 free WiFi hotspots across the country. So, if you’re the kind of parent who wants your kid to stay quiet on the upcoming flight to grandma’s, you might want to consider buying him a 3DS for Christmas.
