Nintendo is Sponsoring EVO

Nintendo is Sponsoring EVO

After ignoring the pro community for years, Nintendo, the company behind everyone’s favorite fighting game that isn’t a fighting game, Smash Bros. , is sponsoring one of the biggest fighting game events of the year: EVO 2014, much to the surprise of everyone in the fighting game community.

Why is this important? Well, EVO sponsors treat the event kind of like a big convention. Usually you’ll end up seeing new news releases by sponsors over the course of the tournament. We got to play a new Killer Instinct build at last year’s evo, for example. Being that Arc System Works is going to be there, we will likely hear something new about Guilty Gear . Then there is Lab Zero for Skullgirls , Atlus for Persona 4 Arena , Bandai Namco for Tekken, Soul Calibur, JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure, and more, and SNK for King of Fighters . So we are going to hear a lot of cool new fighting game news at the event, and now that Nintendo is sponsoring it, we will probably hear news about Smash Bros. as well.

Of course, it’s also important because Nintendo is finally recognizing the pro gaming community and they are also likely the wealthiest sponsor next to Microsoft on the sponsor’s list. That’s always good too.
