In the early 90’s, Nintendo and Sony formed an uneasy alliance in order to create a superior next-gen system. The system never got past the prototype stage, and supposedly only 200 were produced. Whatever that actual number, it seems that one of these extremely rare units have been discovered. According to a reddit user known only as Dnldbld, his father – a businessman who had connections to a Sony Exec – kept the system in relatively good condition.
Of course, we all know how things played out between Sony and Nintendo. Once the partnership soured between the two entertainment giants, Ken Kutaragi of Sony drummed up interest internally to continue development on the console sans Nintendo, and we’re now living in a world with 4 consecutive Playstation consoles. If this pans out to be legit, the reddit user is sitting on what may truly be a one-of-a-kind collectors item and a piece of video game history.
