NPD Reveals Xbox One Was The Top Selling Console in December

NPD Reveals Xbox One Was The Top Selling Console in December

Yesterday afternoon, the NPD Group confirmed that the Xbox One was the number one selling console in the US market for the month of December with a total of 908,000 units being sold. After hearing this announcement, Microsoft reps publicized this news over on their dedicated Xbox Wire news website.

A few of the standout highlights from these numbers include:

  • Both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 platforms accounted for $ 1.39 billion or 50 percent of the combined hardware, software, and accessories spend in the US.
  • During the month of December, Xbox one held six of the top 10 spots on the new generation console list. These games included Battlefield 4 , Forza Motorspot 5 , Dead Rising 3 , Ryse: Son of Rome , Madden NFL 25 , and Call of Duty: Ghosts .

Xbox Corporate VP of Marketing Yusef Mehdi expressed his excitement and gratitude for fans having purchased the console and promised that bigger and better things were to come as the year goes on.

As an Xbox One owner myself, I’m glad to hear this news but am also fully aware that this console war is far from over. Last I checked, the PS4 still leads in sales worldwide and it is very difficult to find one through most retailers. The Xbox One on the other hand, is everywhere and I fully believe that is the main reason why the console had a great selling month in December. It will be interesting to see how both of these consoles perform once games like Titanfall and Infamous: Second Son are out.

Are any of you happy or disappointed to hear that the Xbox One was leading in sales for the month of December? Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on the subject in the comments section below.
