While the Oculus Rift is certainly making a huge splash in the world of gaming, its sales numbers would have you think otherwise. Most gaming hits sell in the orders of millions, but the Oculus Rift has sold only 85,000 units, 25,000 of which are just for their 2.0 dev kit. Note, that this only covers dev kits and pre-orders (which run at a $350 price tag.) Unfortunately, official Oculus Rift shipments are not planned until July.
Unfortunately, many fans of the Oculus Rift have asked for their money back after the company was purchased by Facebook. In terms of what actual effect this has on the Oculus Rift, we aren’t sure, but Oculus has many time reaffirmed that this won’t change their future plans once bit.
