OlliOlli and Sequel Getting Special Physical Release

OlliOlli and Sequel Getting Special Physical Release

I can explain OlliOlli to you in less than a minute. In this 2D side-scroller your skateboarder will automatically coast to the right, and you can press X (or A) a couple times to speed him up. You can’t run into obstacles or rough terrain or you’ll crash, so you’ll have to hold the joystick in any direction to crouch, then let go to ollie (jump). To land, you’ll need to tap X (A) right as you hit the ground, or else you’ll stumble. If you’re landing on a rail or ledge, you hold down as you land in order to grind. That’s all there is to it! Using those three buttons you have to get from point A to point B.

It’s a simple formula made maddeningly difficult by clever level design, and you’ll find yourself retrying certain stages 10, 20, or 30 times in a row (this is Super Meat Boy all over again). Also keep in mind that you can flick, swoop, and jerk the joystick in all different directions to pull of various tricks as you go along for high scores and unlockables. The game is simple and incredibly fun, and features a killer soundtrack, which is why I’m so excited to report that OlliOlli is getting a physical release on PS4.

The physical edition will be called OlliOlli: Epic Combo Edition , and will come with OlliOlli , as well as its sequel OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood . You’ll also get the OlliOlli 2 soundtrack, an exclusive booklet about Roll7, and three making-of documentaries. I’m not sure I want to watch three films about the game being made, but I’d be more than happy to fork over $30 or so for the whole package regardless. This is coming some time in the summer, but we don’t know exactly when or how much it will cost. When I find out I’ll let you know.
