Other Xbox Games We'd Like to See On PS5
The recent announcement of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II coming to PS5 shows it as the latest in a long line of former Xbox exclusive games making their way to Sony's console. It joins major releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 5 as titles that were once flagship games of the Xbox ecosystem to transition into multi-platform titles, and it also begs the question of what other Xbox games could eventually make their way to the PS5. Microsoft's shifting strategy over the last few years has seen it focusing more and more on services like Game Pass and trying to ensure that players can experience their games on virtually any screen, and the next logical evolution of that would see the following Xbox titles make their way to Sony's current-gen console.
South of Midnight
- Release Date — April 8, 2025
- Developer — Compulsion Games
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Review Aggregate Score — 77% (Generally Favorable)
Compulsion Games' South of Midnight is the kind of title we don't see too much of in the current gaming landscape, a narrative-driven action-adventure title that plays like a classic from the PS2 era but looks absolutely stunning thanks to current-gen hardware and a captivating art style. While South of Midnight's more barebones gameplay didn't wow critics, its excellent story, writing, and characterization of the American south and its inhabitants earned the title plenty of praise, and it weaves a tale that deserves to be experienced by more players than just those with an Xbox Series X/S or a PC.
Sunset Overdrive
- Release Date — October 28, 2014
- Developer — Insomniac Games
- Publisher — Microsoft Studios
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Open-World
- Review Aggregate Score — 81% (Generally Favorable)
With all the formerly Xbox-exclusive titles making their way to the PS5, it's a wonder that Sunset Overdrive hasn't already arrived on the console, especially given the fact that the title comes from Sony first-party studio, Insomniac Games. This parkour and acrobatic-heavy third-person shooter sees you take on a host of mutated freaks who have taken over the city after being infected by a new energy drink, and its gameplay is just as off-the-wall and hilarious as its bonkers premise. Insomniac has since gone on to utilize many of the movement lessons learned from Sunset Overdrive in the PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man games, so it would be a full-circle moment for the title to make it to the PS5.
Gears of War: E-Day
- Release Date — TBA
- Developer — The Coalition, People Can Fly
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — Action, Third-Person Shooter
The upcoming remaster of the original Gears of War being a multi-platform title is a dream-come-true for PlayStation owners who have long watched The Coalition and Microsoft's action shooter franchise from the sidelines, and there's no reason for the series to stop there. The next game in the Gears of War series, E-Day, is a prequel set 15 years before the events of the first game in the franchise, and it deserves to be a multi-platform release now that we know the series' first game is coming to PS5. With any luck, PlayStation owners will eventually get the entire Gears of War saga.
Towerborne
- Release Date — September 10, 2024
- Developer — Stoic
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — Beat 'em Up, RPG
- Review Aggregate Score — N/A (Early Access)
While Towerborne has been in Early Access on PC for almost a year, it only just recently came to Xbox thanks to an extended game preview. But when the title finally arrives on Xbox, it shouldn't stop there. Instead, Towerborne's MMORPG/Beat 'em Up hybrid is a perfect fit for a multi-platform release with crossplay enabled, making it an ideal fit for one of several Xbox games we'd like to see make its way to the PS5. Towerborne features elements of classics like Dungeons & Dragons: Shadows over Mystara or Guardian Heroes, has an amazing art style, and it comes from the team behind The Banner Saga.
Gears Tactics
- Release Date — April 28, 2020
- Developer — Splash Damage, The Coalition
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — Turn-Based Tactics
- Review Aggregate Score — 80% (Generally Favorable)
I will never stop singing the praises of Gears Tactics until we get the sequel that we so desperately need. A brilliant blend of XCOM-style turn-based tactics with the gritty action of the Gears of War franchise, Gears Tactics makes great use of its license to deliver a TRPG that's both familiar and unique. Seriously, the Gears cover-shooting gameplay is a perfect fit for a tactics crossover, and just because Gears Tactics is turn-based doesn't mean it's any less thrilling than one of the mainline Gears of War games. With more Gears of War games hopefully heading to PS5, Gears Tactics shouldn't be left out.
Avowed
- Release Date — February 18, 2025
- Developer — Obsidian Entertainment
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — Action RPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 81% (Generally Favorable)
Obsidian's Avowed is one of two titles that the beloved RPG studio is set to ship this year, with the other being Outer Wilds 2. And while both of those games are currently set to be Xbox exclusives (barring their PC versions), we'd pick Avowed to come to the PS5 if we could only have one. Avowed is what's best described as a "comfort food" RPG, as it strips back a lot of the minutiae of a game in the Elder Scrolls series to focus on things like combat, setting, atmosphere, and exploration. It also happens to look absolutely incredible and feature an incredibly unique sense of aesthetic and art direction, making us wonder how it'd look on a PS5 Pro.
Starfield
- Release Date — September 6, 2023
- Developer — Bethesda Game Studios
- Publisher — Bethesda Softworks
- Genre — Action RPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 83% (Generally Favorable)
Ever since Microsoft started bringing over Xbox games to launch on PS5, players have been hoping for a release of Starfield, and that's even after the game's somewhat middling reception from players. Truthfully, Starfield is a perfectly competent game that was already strong at launch but has since only gotten better, and a PS5 version could even include the Shattered Space DLC as a bonus. While it might lack the depth or true RPG freedom of a game like Skyrim, Starfield excels at building an excellent retrofuturist sci-fi atmosphere and features some very strong first-person shooter combat.
Halo: Infinite
- Release Date — December 8, 2021
- Developer — 343 Industries
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — FPS, Open-World
- Review Aggregate Score — 87% (Generally Favorable)
The Halo series making its way to PS5 would be a line in the sand that Microsoft would probably wait as long as possible to cross, as it would potentially signal the end of the Xbox platform as we've known it for more than 20 years. But with Microsoft's continual shift toward a multi-platform strategy, the promise of playing Halo: Infinite on a PS5 is just too enticing to ignore. Halo: Infinite took the traditional combat sandbox and power fantasy of playing as Master Chief and expanded it into an open world, and its campaign is so good that it deserves to be on every platform Microsoft and 343 can port it to as an example of how to do an open-world FPS right.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
- Release Date — November 20, 2024
- Developer — GSC Game World
- Publisher — GSC Game World
- Genre — FPS, Immersive Sim, Survival Horror
- Review Aggregate Score — 73% (Mixed or Average)
GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is one of those titles that won't land for everyone. But for those who it does land, you'll find it hard to put down, as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is one of the most immersive and unforgiving treks through a digital wasteland ever developed. And true to GSC Game World's promises and the history of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has only continued to get better and better since its (admittedly) rocky launch, priming it for an eventual release on PS5 once it hits a state that the developers are more confident in.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
- Release Date — November 11, 2014
- Developer — 343 Industries
- Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
- Genre — FPS
- Review Aggregate Score — 85% (Generally Favorable)
Having Halo: Infinite on PS5 would be a major win, but having the Master Chief Collection would be even better. As much as Halo: Infinite's campaign represents some of the most fun players can have with the Halo franchise, there's no beating the value of the Master Chief collection and the legacy of the titles it includes. Plus, much like the original Gears of War making its way to the PS5, the original Halo and Halo 2 being playable on a PlayStation console after years of Xbox exclusivity would feel like a dream come true to players who missed out on those now-legendary titles.
