Over 20 Million Pay for PlayStation Plus

Over 20 Million Pay for PlayStation Plus

PlayStation Plus is popular. How popular? Well, it’s now up to over 20 million subscribers. That’s pretty good, when the service is $49.99 per year. The exact figure, provided by Sony in its Investor Day report, is 20.8 million current subscribers. To help round out that figure, Sony also confirmed in that same report that over 40 million PlayStation 4s have been sold worldwide. I guess you could assume about half the people who purchased PlayStation 4s also subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

PlayStation Plus launched back in June 2010. When the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013, the subscription service became the only way to play games online. In October 2014, Sony reported 7.9 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, with about half of all PlayStation 4 owners opting in to the service. That went to 10.9 million in January 2015. With the figure at 20 million now, maybe we’ll see it hit 30 million by the 2016 holiday season? Then again, maybe it won’t get to that point until the Neo appears.
