Paladins Strike Creators Admit to Using Overwatch Art

Whoops! Hi-Rez Studios has been promoting Paladins Strike , a mobile spinoff of Paladins , using character splash art with some strikingly familiar backgrounds. Turns out, those backgrounds looked so familiar because it was literally art from Overwatch . Specifically, it was from a loading screen showing off the Lijiang Tower map.

A Reddit user by the name of Arcieth is the original whistleblower, who created a handy GIF showing the similarities between the art. The story then grew more interesting, as the game’s art director replied, thanking the user for their diligence and promising to look into the matter. It seems like some of the art assets for Paladins Strike were outsourced, with Hi-Rez not having much oversight with the partner studio responsible for the problem.

The response comes with a claim the company is moving to control that output more, and to improve the quality as well as “make things feel a little more unique.” This was quickly followed up with a response that art from Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm was also found in the game.
