PlayStation 4 Expected to Outsell Xbox One this Year

PlayStation 4 Expected to Outsell Xbox One this Year

The next chapter of the console war may have a very different beginning, as this time it looks as if Sony and the PlayStation 4 will be the front runner.

Microsoft has always been the home team when it comes to North America, which is a point that Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida recently conceded in an interview with GamesIndustry International. Yoshida also goes so far as to call themselves the “challenger.”

Well, according to a report from the International Data Corporation, estimates suggest that the PS4 will in fact outsell the Xbox One, and one of the biggest determining factor comes down to price.

The Xbox One will launch with a $500 price tag , with the PlayStation 4 undercutting them by a hundred bucks, coming in at $400 at launch . Gamespot reports: “The IDC report also concludes that the number of game consoles shipped worldwide in 2013 will be marginally higher than 2012’s 33 million, bringing to a halt a four-year slide that started in 2009.”

In response, Albert Penello (Microsoft Xbox Director) claims that the Xbox One is just “worth more” than its competitor and the $100 price point won’t make that much of a difference in the long term.

Of course, only time will tell. However, with it releasing at virtually the same time as the Xbox One (and with a cheaper price tag), the PlayStation 4 looks to make sure it has a stronger showing at launch than the previous gen’s outing. The Xbox 360 launched over a full year before the PS3.

The PlayStation 4 will be released on November 15 th while the Xbox One will arrive on the 22 nd .
