Prey Exploit Busts the Crafting System Wide Open

Prey Exploit Busts the Crafting System Wide Open

In Prey , there’s a crafting system involving heavy machinery and “fabrication,” the proxy verb of choice. You gather resources, recycle them into indistinct cubes, and turn those cubes into ammo, consumables, and eventually even skill upgrade points. A glitch has been discovered that more or less renders the intended scarcity of the crafting system moot, should players take the time to abuse this exploit.

About an hour into Prey , gaining access to protagonist Morgan Yu’s office also introduces the crafting system. Yu’s office has both a Material Recycler and a Fabricator for easy, low-stress access early on.

To use the Prey exploit, get some recycled cubes through normal use, but turn around and put those recycled materials back into the Material Recycler in at least four piles. The device will spit out double the amount of materials you put in. Obviously you can do this ad nauseam until you have as many resources as you want.

This totally breaks an aspect of Prey meant to hinder you at points, but if you’re already playing on easy and want to get through it or are on a replay of the game and want to just mess around, why not? Arkane Studios and Bethesda may end up patching this out in due time, so keep that in mind.
