PS3 Redesign Rumored for E3 Reveal

PS3 Redesign Rumored for E3 Reveal

None

The Internet is abuzz today with a rumor started over on PlayStationLifestyle. Apparently, according to the article, unnamed sources close to Sony have told the gaming blog that a hardware “redesign” was in the cards for a top Sony product, and that it was going to be revealed alongside the PSP Go! at E3 2009.

Unfortunately, the actual hardware getting redesigned was never specifically mentioned. This has prompted a wide range of speculation as to which product will be getting retooled, with the PS3 winning out for no other reason than wishful thinking.

If the PS3 does get a redesign, it will likely be as small as a color change. However, extra features currently found in the PS3 could be dropped in favor of a PS3 Slim. Things like backwards compatibility, HDMI, USBs, etc. could be shaved off, allowing for a smaller package and a lower price point. Or, maybe it is in reference to a totally new PS3-like device that does away with Blu-ray in favor of direct access to PSN and Sony Cloud (the rumored streaming gaming service trademarked a few months ago by the electronics giant).

Of course, the mentioned “redesign” is so vague and unsubstantiated that it could simply be in reference to the PSP Go! We’ll have to wait and see at E3.
