PS4 Media Player Getting a PSVR Update

PS4 Media Player Getting a PSVR Update

Now that the PlayStation VR is upon us, all sorts of updates are coming to our PlayStation 4s to prepare for the new peripheral. While it’s easy to get super excited about the PSVR games, other quality of life updates are just as important. Case in point, the PS4’s Media Player is getting a 2.50 update that adds PSVR support.

After you update the PS4 Media Player today, you’ll be able to look at 360° photos and videos while wearing the headset. Once you add BMP, JPEG, PNG, AVCHD, AVI, MKV, MP4, MPEG2 PS, or MPEG2 TS pictures or videos taken by a 360° omnidirectional camera in an equirectangular format, you can watch them in VR mode to enjoy the 360° view.

For people who aren’t getting a PS VR headset, the PS4 Media Player update will make your music sound better. It now supports FLAC high-res audio files. If you don’t have any of those, then the DSEE HX technology in the update will take AAC and MP3 files and upscale them automatically. Your PS4 will be an even better media center after this!
