Psychonauts Goes Home

None

Psychonauts is returning to Tim Schafer. That statement is true, if not entirely accurate. Double Fine, Schafer’s production studio, has always had the rights to the Psychonauts intellectual property, giving them control over the franchise’s future. Now, however, the publishing rights of the original game are reverting to Schafer’s studio, which falls more on the financial side of things than the creative side.

While this shouldn’t spark sudden hopes of a sequel to the cult classic (Schafer has always said that a follow-up would be dependent on a publisher paying the way), Schafer has stated that, when this rights transfer is finalized, he and his company will have more to announce. He has clarified that this announcement is not Psychnoauts 2, but, seeing as the original is already available on a selection of digital distribution services (Steam, GoG.com, Xbox Classics), the announcement does seem to point to something new.
