Putting All Their “Eggs in one Basket” Is Not Smart Says Naughty Dog Developer

Putting All Their “Eggs in one Basket” Is Not Smart Says Naughty Dog Developer

We’ve heard a lot of talk recently regarding exactly what the future of gaming will look like. Is it mobile? Is it the indie scene? While these are all important aspects, Naughty Dog says that we need an “all of the above approach.”

Bruce Straley (who’s studio is behind such hits as Uncharted and The Last of Us ) recently stated on reddit that every aspect of the gaming spectrum is important; from indie development to big budget studio releases. “I don’t think mobile development is the future. And I don’t think the industry as a whole should put all their eggs into any ONE basket …We need diversity. We need indie games, mid-tier games, AAA games, and mobile.” says Straley.

While it might sound like he’s tooting his own horn, Straley rightful makes the point that triple AAA titles are churned out by larger studios for consoles (not mobile devices) as it’s what the gaming community wants most. He feels that this is a task that can only be handled by a studio of their size, stating, “I’m no business man, but we’ve built the studio on being able to turn out a certain level of quality games, that our fans have grown to love and look to us for.”

DLC for their hit The Last of Us entitled “ Left Behind ” is currently out.
