Rage Held In Check Until October

None

For such an enormous title from such an infamous studio, Rage has been kept under surprisingly tight wraps over the course of its development. It was announced alongside the new engine that would be powering it, and then seemed to fall off the face of the earth for months, even years, at a time. Lately, though, the game has been getting some exposure, including a demo at E3.

It might come as a surprise, then, to learn that the title has been pushed back from its September 13 release to October 4. Why the extra three weeks? The developer hasn’t said, leaving the gaming media as perplexed as fans who have been waiting seven years for the title to come out. This is id’s first original IP since Quake launched in 1996 and people want to see what they can do with this new, desert-themed, post-apocalyptic world.

A sudden delay, immediately after showing the game at E3, is slightly worrisome, but an extra three week wait is far from the worst possible response to press feedback.

Rage will come to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 4.
